Get to know your usersInformation planning and architecture are essential parts of any successful web development project. This means understanding how your users think and what information they’re looking for, and then presenting that information in a logical, intuitive manner.

Use cases and wireframes Use case that anticipates audience interactions. These use cases are essential for determining success and failure of user interaction. Wireframes are fast and inexpensive and let you further game out user interaction and organize information, iterate, and make changes.

The Lego approachYou are trying to make the software easy to use, but you also have to design the other related objectives into the experience. The marketing campaign, sales objective, use cases and conversions. Good UX design delivers solutions that address all of the above and more, so I break it down into smaller interactions, iterate, prototype and then build on those successes before moving on.

Design a systemI like to use the atomic design principal when designing for any software or web application. It's the closest thing I can relate to Legos. (See a pattern here?) It’s part of a larger system of design standards (style guide) and documentation, including UI patterns, UX design principles, and components.
